Congratulations on making it into medicine at UNSW for 2016. All your hard work has paid off and we hope that you are brimming with excitement to get started.
Before you get started though, keep reading below to find out about how you can get involved with the medicine community before day 1, and what you can expect from the first few weeks!.
Medsoc is the official body that represents all the students of medicine at UNSW and we look forward to working with you to enrich and improve your experience. The easiest way that you can get involved and get plugged in is by liking the UNSW MedSoc Facebook Page and by joining the new UNSW Class of 2021 page.
Are you an international student? We’re so glad that you’ve come all this way to study with us! Join the UNSW Class of 2021 (Internationals) Facebook group and get connected with other international students.
If you have any questions for Medsoc, you can contact the First Year Representatives (Naomi and Oscar) at email@example.com. They’d love to hear from you.
What To Expect When Starting Medicine…
You’ll soon find out that despite the stereotypes, medical students DO NOT spend all day, every day studying. Medsoc can become a key into a whole new side of your social life with student-led charity events, memorable (and otherwise…) pub-crawls, mentoring sessions, exam revision nights or even the hilarious Med Revue. So prepare for six years of working hard and playing harder!
To get the socialising started, in the first few weeks there are a number of events that will happen:
This is where lifelong friendships are forged and timeless experiences are had. This truly is a must for starting out medicine (ask any 6th year and they’ll tell you that MedCamp was one of their fondest memories!). You can get more information on the UNSW Medicine Class of 2021 Facebook page but this year’s theme is ‘Scar Wars: The Fresher Awakens’ so you can be sure of a good time.
UNSW MedSoc proudly runs a great mentoring program for incoming first year students to connect and get grounded into university life. Come along from 5:30 – 8:00pm on Monday 29th February (after the first day of uni is done!) for lots of fun, games, and a chance to mingle!
