Special Interest Groups (SIGs)

What is a SIG?

SIGs are a new initiative from MedSoc that aims to cater for and address individual interests of MedSoc members by supporting smaller events organised by individual members. There are two types of SIGs:

  • Academic SIG
  • Extra-curricular SIG

As an affiliated group of MedSoc, a SIG would operate on its own terms and organises events/activities, while receiving administrative and financial support from MedSoc. For more information about the administration and structure of SIGs, visit About SIGs.

GastroSoc Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine concerned with the structure, functions, diseases and pathology of the digestive system including hepatitis, reflux, inflammatory bowel disease and haemachromotosis. We held a successful opening night in 2010 that featured practicing gastroenterologists sharing their experiences with us and offering insight into the pathways into this field of medicine. 2011 will feature clinical skills events, which will give you the rare opportunity to think and act like a gastroenterologist. Participants can learn about the latest gastroenterological investigation techniques and develop an appreciation for common surgical cases.
