Campuses

The Rural Clinical School encompasses 4 campuses around New South Wales:

  • Albury Wodonga
  • Coffs Harbour
  • Port Macquarie
  • Wagga Wagga

Rural campuses offer a wide range of benefits to students, including: a low student/patient ratio as well as more one-on-one teaching in major regional hospitals, with access to a range of specialists in all major fields. All local students are required to spend at least 4 weeks of clinical learning in a rural location, with RSES required to undertake 12 months in residential rural environments.

Albury Wodonga

Strategically located on the major inland Sydney to Melbourne corridor – the Hume Highway – Albury Wodonga is three hours from Melbourne and Canberra and six hours from Sydney by road. Albury Wodonga is one of the largest inland population centres in Australia with over 90,000 people living within the immediate region.

Coffs Harbour

Coffs Harbour is situated on the beautiful Mid North Coast of New South Wales, 554 km north (seven to eight hours drive) of Sydney and 427 km (five hours drive) south of Brisbane. Coffs Harbour’s population is approximately 68,000, which more than doubles during holiday periods. The city also has a full range of modern educational, health, entertainment, commercial and sporting facilities.

Port Macquarie

Port Macquarie is on the Mid North Coast 420km north of Sydney (4 to 5 hours by car). The population is approximately 65,000, which swells to over 100,000 during the holiday seasons. Port Macquarie offers students a chance to discover a beautiful area of New South Wales. In recent years Port Macquarie has become one of the centres of highest population growth on the coast with the demographic shift out of the cities. Port Macquarie has a legendary climate and beautiful beaches.

Wagga Wagga

Located 470km south of Sydney and 435km north of Melbourne, Wagga Wagga is New South Wales’ largest inland city. Wagga is just two hours drive from Canberra, and a one hour flight from Sydney or Melbourne. With a population of approximately 60,000 Wagga Wagga has all the benefits of a modern centre, without the stress of urban living. At the Wagga Wagga Campus, students have access to two first-class hospital facilities where they have the opportunity to observe medicine in a regional setting as well as visiting surrounding smaller centres to see the health needs particular to a rural community.
